Exclusively revealed to 6 Towns Radio by sculptor, Andy Edwards, the Lemmy Statue is to be unveiled in Burslem on 9th May 2025.
Music fans and rock enthusiasts around the world will soon be able to pay tribute to one of rock 'n' roll's most iconic figures. A statue of the legendary Lemmy Kilmister, frontman of Motörhead, will be unveiled in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, on 9th May 2025. The unveiling ceremony will celebrate the life, legacy, and influence of one of rock’s most enduring stars.
The statue, which will stand proudly in the heart of Burslem, Lemmy's birthplace, is set to become a permanent tribute to the musician’s indelible mark on the world of rock music
The statue, designed by acclaimed sculptor (and Stoke-on-Trent's own!) Andy Edwards, will capture Lemmy in his signature style: leather jacket, cowboy boots, and a look that defines his rebellious and untamed persona.
Talking about the statue, Andy said: "There has been a call for a statue of Lemmy in his place of birth for a long time, I've always thought it was our duty, not just an honour, to ensure the life, work and legacy stays at the forefront of Stoke-on-Trent culture.
"People like Lemmy don't come along every day, in world culture, not just locally, he is an enormous figure. This statue that we are proud to see unveiled on the 9th is going to be a meeting place for people all over the world.
"Part of Lemmy's ashes will also be interred in the plinth of the statue in a vault which will be presided over by legendary guitarist Phil Campbell, who was Lemmy's longest serving band member for 30-years plus, and in some sense this will act as a final resting place, and we're bringing him home."
The statue’s unveiling is expected to attract music fans from all over the world to Stoke-on-Trent, marking a significant milestone in the city’s cultural history as we also celebrate 100 years of city status.
Local businesses and establishments will also be participating in the celebration, with special Motörhead-themed events and promotions taking place across Burslem.
